Contact Lenses and Laser eye surgery?
Hi —
My eye sight is going really bad slowly but it is noticable and i hate glasses my parents wear contacts.I have been thinking if i was old enough t get laser eye surgery (I am 13 I live in the UK) or would i not be allowed i would pay for it myself.Also if i wasn't allowed i was thinking of getting contacts for everyday life i hate carrying glasses and they really don't suit me so i was wanering if i was too young? and also one slight worry is while i outside what if something went in my eye while i was wearing contacts? any ideas on how to persuade parents for them?will it do anyharm?Alsowhat would be better the ones that you dispose of everyday or the one that you clean everyday?i would be carefull when wearing them also can you notice contacts because someone once noticed my parents were wearing contacts when they never knew,any other advice would be great, also after going to the opticions for an eye test for contacts how long do you need to wait before they come?

I really need to do it (lasik) my prescr. is very high but I don t have insurance, how much can cost me?
I have $4000 do u think that s enough?
Also I don t know where I can go to do it, I live in Chicago and sometimes I saw in tv the commercial with lasik plus, what do u suggest?
$4000 is about right for most places. Best thing to do is to call some of your local Ophthalmology clinics, these are practices that have MD's, and may provide surgery options. Many places do free lasik consultations, and will let you know if you are even a candidate. Also, if you wear contacts, they usually want you to wear glasses for several weeks before the surgery with no contact lens wear in order to properly reshape the cornea.

I'm 17 and want eye laser surgery some day when I get the cash. What age do you suggest I have it done, apparently 17 is still young.
After your eyes have had a stable Rx for at least two years, which for most people puts them in the 22-25 age group.
There's very little point in having surgery if your eyes are immediately going to start drifting off their re-set value near zero.
