Laser eye surgery (UK) Does this price seem right?

Posted on 29th November 2009 by admin in laser eye surgery uk

Hi I want to get laser eye surgery and I have wanted this for some time.
I know how it is done and I know all the risks and complications which can happen.
I want to get it done with Lasik and i want the best aftercare package (As i believe it is worth every last penny)
Ultralase have quoted me £4590 for both eyes with the lifetime cover on the best package,

Now for my questions:
Is this amount the average cost?
Does anyone know what other companies charge from their own experience?
(as you need a consultation to find out)

I know I can’t be told the exact amount it would cost me with optimax, Optical express, Birkdale etc
But if anyone has a rough idea that would be great.

Thanks in advance

That type of price is a joke and the ”life time care guarantee amounts to nothing. Two reasons : 1) there is a heap of small print which precludes UL from doing anything if they ‘don’t consider it to be in your best interests’. If you have a copy of the guarantee! then take it to a medical lawyer and ask them just what it amounts to. 2) If you need a vast amount of after care - then surely you are trusting the wrong people with your eyes? Optical Express aren’t likely to be much cheaper.

Large corporate providers are only interested in you until you have paid - you are going to receive a number of calls asking you to book treatment and making ‘’special” once off offers. Once you have had treatment, no-one will be chasing you for follow-up appointments.

For a wider perspective of the laser vision providers available to you and the quality thereof - take a look at www.lasik-eyes.co.uk. This website is essentially the hub of all laser vision correction within the UK.

If you have any specific questions regarding the type of treatment you have been offered or the pros/cons of treatment - you are most welcome to email me.

Kind regards

How many times can you have Lasik surgery on your eyes?

Posted on 29th November 2009 by admin in lasik

I originally had the procedure performed in 1999, and a re correction about 2 years later on my left eye. Now my vision has reverted back to being almost as bad as it was before the surgery, and I wear glasses for nearsighted. Can I have the Lasik again?

YES-they definitely can do it again to correct your vision if it changes or worsens throughout the years. My Lasik Dr. even had something in the agreement to correct anything for free if something is necessary for the first two years.

You might think about looking into a new Dr. as well.

Lasik not good idea for people with big pupils?

Posted on 24th November 2009 by admin in lasik

I have really big pupils (the doctor never has to dilate them) and I believe I read somewhere that people with large pupils aren’t necessarily good candidates for Lasik. Is this true?

There are more options available for treating patients with larger pupils as the ablation (treatment) zones are getting larger. However, you are correct that halos after surgery are more of a concern with large diameter pupils.

The amount of correction required, corneal thickness, pupil size, and laser type are all factors that must be considered to determine if you are an acceptable candidate for treatment.
