What’s the UK army’s take on laser eye surgery?

Posted on 27th June 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery uk

From what I’ve looked up its only allowed for some roles but I can’t find out which ones. I really just want to know if I can get it done and still not be restricted in what I’ll be allowed to do.
@Damien M I want to join as infantry but I’d like to have some sort of options say a few years down the line.

and what role are you interested in? it wont affect a infantry man.

‘Edit’ so if your interested in joining the Infantry, laser eye surgery should not be a problem.
i know this from my own experience. i never had laser eye surgery per say… but i didnt get top marks for eye sight either in the eye test. up in scotland. then again in catterick (north yorkshire) but still passed the intake. aslong as you can read A-Z from a short distance everything will work out.
and if your looking to move on from infantry down the line? you will be able to do so, through the chain of command. (just speak to your CO) or… even mention it to your recruiter?

What would disqualify someone from getting lasik?

Posted on 25th June 2011 by admin in lasik

My uncle wanted to correct his vision to correct his nearsightedness but he didn’t qualify. What would disqualify someone with nearsightedness from getting lasik and I am not talking moneywise and he didn’t have lazy eye? I want to know because I might get it later on?

Lasik is a risky procedure that doesn’t guarantee you getting perfect vision even though most claim it will. Eye exercises on the other hand will correct your vision in a couple of weeks. Natural and safe. Lasik will probably feel good at first but in 2 years you will regret it. My neighbor got it and is now paying more than the money she spent.

Does laser eye surgery cause or increase the likelihood cataracts?

Posted on 9th June 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

A friend of mine told me that undergoing laser eye surgery will cause cataracts 20 years after the operation. Is this true?

I have had one patient that developed cataracts shortly after LASIK while still in his forties. Most people that have had LASIK will not get cataracts any sooner than would normally be expected.
