Does laser eye surgery cause or increase the likelihood cataracts?

Posted on 9th June 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

A friend of mine told me that undergoing laser eye surgery will cause cataracts 20 years after the operation. Is this true?

I have had one patient that developed cataracts shortly after LASIK while still in his forties. Most people that have had LASIK will not get cataracts any sooner than would normally be expected.

What age do you need to be for laser eye surgery in Canada?

Posted on 16th April 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

Hi I want to get laser eye surgery (I don’t know any special medical terms but it’s the kind when you just want to go from glasses to no glasses) what age do you need to be? and if you could add a price that’d be great.
Thanks.

LASIK in Australia costs between $5000-6000 for 2 eyes.
Usually it won’t be done until you’re prescription has stabilised - young people who are short sighted generally continue becoming more short sighted until about their mid-late twenties. Once this stops laser surgery will work wonders until you need reading glasses in your late forties. Really it depends on the individual though.

How safe is Laser Surgery for Eye Correction?

Posted on 28th March 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

I been thinking of doing laser eye surgery for both of my eyes…but I am not sure 100% if it is a safe procedure. I wear glasses and I don’t mind really wearing them. They look good on me but at the same time I would like to have perfect vision. What do you suggest?

First of all, laser eye surgery is very safe. Millions of people have done it and it has worked out very well for them. Next, there is no such thing as perfect vision. One thing you must know is that it’s not going to keep your eyes glasses free for the rest of your life. Meaning, it don’t last. At some point, you will have to do it again because as you get older, your eyes/vision will change. Depending on how your eyes heal, you may go several years without any problems and then again, you may only go a few months. One question I would ask the doctor is not how many patients they have done but how many have the turned down. Good Luck.

Can I have laser eye surgery for my lazy eye or therapy?

Posted on 3rd March 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

I’ve recently been told I have been told I have to wear glasses for the next 15 years which I find pretty pathetic. I was wondering whether I can have laser eye surgery or can just have therapy?

I think, when someone has lazy eye, they use special glasses to block the "good" eye to force the lazy one to start functioning. (At least that is how they treated it when I was in school). Laser surgery wouldn’t work for this (would not force the lazy eye to work). Also it is not a good idea to have the laser surgery until ones vision is stabilized.

Amazing Laser Eye Treatment

Posted on 31st January 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

Laser eye treatment is truly an amazing thing. A patient suffering from various eye disorders is given the hope of perfect 20/20 vision. No longer will these patients need to rely on contact lenses and glasses. In this day and age where technology is fast improving, patients can also benefit from the latest technologies for laser eye treatment.

Back in 2000, the success rate for perfect 20/20 vision for patients undergoing LASIK surgery was only 65%. This was the traditional LASIK laser eye surgery and without employing wavefront-guided technology, which significantly increases the accuracy of
laser eye treatment. In the year 2008, it is expected that laser eye treatment patients will have a success rate of an estimated 95% for a perfect 20/20 vision. Isn’t that amazing? If statistics are anything to go by, then all patients with eye disorders, who are suitable for laser eye treatment, will have an almost guaranteed success rate for perfect 20/20 vision. However, having said that, not every eye surgery clinic utilizes this technology. There are still clinics that perform laser eye treatment without wavefront technology.

Generally, with the innovation of technology, the overall price for
laser eye treatment has decreased over the years. Not only is it more affordable now, many eye surgery clinics also offer payment installments and other easy payment methods. This is intended to give more people with eye disorders the chance to undergo laser eye treatment. Most of the larger clinics are happy to try and work out a payment method for patients who wish to undergo laser eye treatment but cannot afford it.

Laser eye treatment patients now also benefit from surgeons’ increased knowledge and experience in performing this surgery over the years. Based on the current development, laser eye treatment can only improve in the near future. As it is, continuous research is always being made in this field to develop new techniques as well as technologies. Laser eye treatment could cost even less in the near future with substantial inroads being made for better and more efficient surgery.

Laser eye treatment is truly the answer to many if not most patients’ problems with many forms of eye conditions. This treatment can and will offer them new meaning to their lives and enable them to have near perfect 20/20 vision, without the use of glasses and contact lenses. This can lead to a person gaining more self-confidence. Now, isn’t that just simply amazing!

If I get laser eye surgery can I still wear my glasses?

Posted on 27th January 2011 by admin in laser eye surgery

I love my glasses,or I love the frames. They are who I am, I don’t like the way I look without them, but I am considering laser eye surgery since I had my son. I would love to have the choice to take the glasses off, especially when swimming as he loves the water but I hate not being able to see him.

So does anyone know if I could keep my frames but get plain glass fitted to them, so I’d have the eye surgery and still wear glasses with no prescription.

Lots of people wear glasses as an accessory. But it sounds a little ridiculous to get eye surgery just so that you can wear fake glasses. Use contacts or goggles when you swim…
