This was great as I was very short sighted and wore contact lenses for many years. My near sight was perfect, though, and I didn't ever near glasses or lenses for reading close up. After the surgery I could see both close up and far distance, but within a couple of days I lost the close up vision. I thought that wasn't a bad price to pay, although I was a little sad that I now need glasses for reading. the key point here, though, is that for the past week or so my sight has been deteriorating, and when I went back to the clinic for a check up a couple of days ago, they told me I was borderline for driving, and they've told me I must wear glasses! I feel gutted that I now need 2 pairs of glasses, when I was led to believe I wouldn't need any at all. They've told me it could just be the healing process, and I should go back again in another month, but I have to say this isn't at all what I expected and they don't tell you any of this when they're giving you the consultation/sales pitch. If I had to drive to get to work every day I'd have a real problem, as I just can't see road signs til they're on top of me, and I'm still wating for the glasses. My advice would be - is it really worth it? I went to a clinic that claims to be top, and all their surgeons graduated from the Royal College of Opthalmology, and I now owe them nearly £5,000 for sight that's giving me real problems! They claim they have a lifetime guarantee of follow up treatment, but would I really go through all that again when I really don't know what the outcome might be? Some of my friends that got lasik done say that they actually ended up with better vision than they ever had with glasses or contacts. However the downside is that when you reach around age 40 you will most likely need reading glasses.
