PRK Eye Surgery

Posted on 4th October 2008 by admin in laser eye surgery - Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

I had PRK eye surgery done last year. It’s very similar to LASIK, but instead of cutting a flap in the epithelium, they scrape a portion of it away, allowing it to regrow like normal without having “flap problems” in the future. This is a video of one of the eyes. Oh, and it’s upside down, so as to avoid confusion. Enjoy.

Are you awake when they do this? If so, how do they keep your eyes from moving? I like the music. All surgery vids should be set to happy music…

  7. I don’t know about …
I don’t know about “hurt” but I think during the healing process it’s a little more uncomfortable. In the end, though, the results seem better.

Surgery didn’t hurt only the day after was bad for me.. not really the hurting but my eyes just couldn’t stand the light.. Now I see almost perfect, just a few more days of healing..

and defenately true, be very very very careful which doctor you decide to do the surgery with!!!!!!!

  16. Great video… I …
Great video… I just had PRK yesterday afternoon. My eyes felt a little scratchy last night but this morning I feel great… My vision is about 90% right now. Some things are a little out of focus which I was told will heal over the next few days.

Very exciting to say the least. :)

  17. The whole thing …
The whole thing only lasts about 2-3 minutes per eye, and my eye did get dried out, especially with the lazers and all. They flushed out my eyes with water at the end and that felt really really good.

  20. I had PRK surgery …
I had PRK surgery in Austin, November 1999 in my right eye! The recovery time was a bit longer but the final outcome was well worth it. I have referred several family members. I think I was lucky because Dr. Howerton took the time to help manage the discomfort that was anticipated.

  21. It’s not an easy …
It’s not an easy decision. It has worked well for me, though. All the drops and recovery time have been well worth it for me, but I guess it’s up to each person to decide. Good luck to you.

  22. I’m thinking on …
I’m thinking on doing this… and just like in your case my cornea is too thin for LASIK so it’s not like I had the choice.

My fears are really the risks… infections and inflammation since the cornea is transparent any slightest problem will affect your vision… the doctor also explained me about the contact lenses you have to wear after the operation for xx hours, the antibiotics and other stuff you have to put on your eye to protect it but even soo it’s not an easy decision…

  23. I’ve never noticed …
I’ve never noticed that before. I think the white thing is to clean out any particles that may be left in the eye after the lazer is used. I’m not sure why it expands. I guess that would be a question for an optomologist.

im talking about that white thing…

  25. Are you talking …
Are you talking about the metal thing at the beginning? If so, those are kind of like tongs that hold the eye open. Except instead of squeezing them together to pick things up, they squeeze them together to put them into the eye. When they let go, it holds the eye open. My eye was numb during it, so I couldn’t feel it.
