You can eat before surgery you just can't drink alcohol the night before because it can dry out your eyes. You should have your lenses out for 7 days prior to surgery (soft lenses). Do not wear any cologne on day of surgery because smells can effect the laser. The clinic will thoroughly clean your eyelids and give you an antibiotic drop before surgery. Most clinics make you wear a surgical cap and booties to keep the operating room sterile. After surgery you can not watch tv, read or computers for 24 hours. You will have to wear protective sunglasses or goggles one week outside, 2 days inside and googles to bed for a week or eye shields. Showering with goggles for a week. I hope this answered your questions.
References :
http://www.lasikprovision.com

The best place to get those answers from is the place you are having the surgery. Typically, most places would want you out of your contact lenses for a few weeks before the surgery and you should be able to watch tv and use a computer almost immediately after.
References :
Optometrist
