Intralase / IntraLASIK

Posted on 18th September 2008 by admin in lasik uk - Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Intralase / IntraLASIK - essentially an ALL LASER Lasik procedure that dispenses altogether with a blade (used in traditional Lasik). Centre for Sight introduced this technology to the UK in 2004 and has had a long head start. The video shows what takes place during the procedure including the surgeon’s view. Advantages: precision, uniform flap thickness/thinness - Centre for Sight apparently like using thin flaps (100 microns or less) as they “provide minimal bio-mechanical change, better maintenance of corneal strength, better vision and less dry”. Interestingly “Thin flap lasik with Intralase” has been termed SBK or “Sub-Bowman’s Keratomileusis” by Stephen Slade and Dan Durrie in the US. You first heard it here at Lasik Eyes (although Centre for Sight have been doing this for over 3 years !)

Lasik with Hansatome

Posted on 16th September 2008 by admin in lasik uk - Tags: , , , , , , ,

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. It is a procedure in which a thin flap of tissue is cut, and then peeled back from the very front of the cornea (this is the transparent covering over your pupil). The laser literally vapourises away some of your corneal tissue beneath the flap to make your cornea a slightly different shape which will correct your refractive error. Then the flap is placed back over the front of your eye. LASIK can be used to correct short-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.
